ARTISTIC CHESS SETS in wood and ceramic

BLUE & GREEN PAINTED CHESS SET - Both the colorful chess board and chess pieces are hand-painted with a variety of colors, with blues and greens predominating. The board and pieces are coated with a table top quality resin. The frame is painted with quality sign painter's alkalyd paint Board is 20" Sq. x 1 3/4 H. King is 4 3/8 " H. with a base of 1 3/4".

MUSICAL INSTRUMENT CHESS SET - All the pieces in this clever chess set, are represented by a variety of musical instruments. The artist meticulously hand-formed each chess piece into a musical instrument. The low-fire clay is glazed to look like metal, in a pewter-like and a bronzey glaze. Very highly reflective. The king is 5 3/4" tall and the board with it's oak frame and Danish oil finish measures 20" square.

BLUE & WHITE PORCELAIN CHESS SET - The forms in this set are made by the same process as the Porcelain Chess Set with Green, Peach and Blue. The painting technique the artist used is unusual. A latex mask was meticulously painted over part of each chess piece to act as a color resist. Then each piece was carefully airbrushed with a blue porcelain slip. The latex was removed to reveal a color pattern on the porcelain. Then each piece was again painted with the latex mask in a new pattern and airbrushed in a soft lavender slip (liquid clay). This process was repeated again to create a soft overlapping design encircling each chess piece.

A red oak frame surrounds the blue and white porcelain-like chess tiles, is finished with Danish oil, and measures 19 1/2 square . The King is 2 3/4 " tall with a base diameter of 1 3/8 ". The bottom of each chess piece has a protective material applied to protect the chessboard from getting marred. SOLD
